A brush fire broke out near El Monte County Park in Lakeside Tuesday, leading to almost immediate evacuation orders as the flames threatened structures.

The fire, reported in the 15900 block of El Monte Road in Lakeside, initially reported to have burned five acres east of Wildcat Canyon Road and west of El Capitan Reservoir, has now consumed 25.

The evacuation zone is north of El Monte extending beyond El Capitan and to parts of El Cajon Mountain.

Those fleeing should go to the park, 15805 El Monte Road, authorities said. Crews from the Lakeside Fire Protection District and San Diego County Fire are responding.

Watch Duty, a non-profit fire service, reported that additional air resources have been summoned to fight the blaze, which began around 2:30 p.m.
