Newly-appointed India National Cricket Team Test skipper Shubman Gill has opened up on which three Test matches the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will play against the England National Cricket Team.
Shubman Gill said that nothing is pre-decided about Jasprit Bumrah's participation in the Test series against England, and they will look to manage his workload on a match-to-match basis.

The 31-year-old Bumrah is arguably the best bowler in the world at the moment. He was one of the best performers in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle and finished as the joint-second highest wicket-taker behind Pat Cummins.
However, the numbers of Jasprit Bumrah are far superior to the other bowlers present in the top 10 leading wicket-takers list. In 15 matches, he bagged 77 wickets at an exceptional average of 15.09, an economy of 2.95, and a strike rate of 30.67.
Bumrah is currently with the Indian squad in England, preparing for the high-octane five-match Test series against England. But his absence will be felt in some of the matches as the pacer will only feature in three out of five games.
This is because of his most recent back injury that he picked up during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Although Bumrah has fully recovered, he has been advised against playing all five Tests by the BCCI medical team to avoid a breakdown.
Chief Ajit Agarkar had confirmed his development about Jasprit Bumrah while announcing the squad for the England tour, and Gautam Gambhir had said that they are yet to decide in which matches he will play.
So I think it’s more based on match-to-match - Shubman Gill
In a recent interaction with Dinesh Karthik on Sky Sports, Shubman Gill said that plenty of factors will come into play while unleashing Bumrah. Hence, they are playing a waiting game. Shubman Gill elaborated:
"Depending on how we go about matches, you know, there might be rain in one of the matches. So I think it’s more based on match to match, and see how much workload there has been on him. And that’s what you’re trying to look at.
"You see how much workload he has had in this match. We don’t want to have a predetermined set: ‘Okay, these are the matches that he would want to play.’ Because there are, there are so many factors that can go or not go in your favor, that can determine whether he is going to play the next match or not."
Shubman Gill opens up on his bond with Mohammed Siraj
While talking about his bond with premier pacer Mohammed Siraj, Shubman Gill said that they made their debut together and share a very good relationship.
“With Siraj, we made our test debut together. We almost made our one-day debut together. He made one match prior to mine, and we played so many matches of India together.
"So, having that bond with him and knowing what he’s capable of, and like I said, keeping a secure environment and making the player feel secure in his abilities and his capabilities, I feel, is one of the most important things that a leader has to do. And having these kinds of relationships, I think, helps a lot," he added.
