Tennessee adds transfer pledge from all-conference pitcher, Knoxville native

Tennessee is working on revamping its roster after falling short of the College World Series, just one year removed from winning it all in Omaha. Now, the task for Tony Vitello and his coaching staff is to get the team back to the top of the SEC baseball world, and a key transfer piece was added on Wednesday.

Early Wednesday morning, former East Tennessee State pitcher Brady Frederick announced his commitment to the Vols. Frederick spent 2 seasons at ETSU, and the rising junior is coming off a breakout campaign in 2025.

A submarine-style righthander, Frederick was the 2025 SoCon Pitcher of the Year and a first-team All-SoCon selection after covering 77.2 innings with a 2.67 ERA and 8-2 overall record. He pitched in a March 18 game vs. the Vols, going 3.2 innings with 2 earned runs allowed in an upset win for ETSU.

Frederick was a two-time All-District player at Knoxville’s Bearden High School, giving the star hurler a chance to play for his hometown team at Tennessee.

Frederick would help ETSU reach the NCAA Tournament this season, drawing a trip to the Nashville Regional. He would go 6.2 innings in a spirited effort vs. Wright State, allowing just 3 earned runs with a season-high 6 strikeouts. Unfortunately, ETSU lost that game and was eliminated.
