Moreover, he playfully recalled Farnham’s 94 sold-out shows at Rod Laver Arena throughout his career, reportedly more than any other performer.
“So I guess tonight makes it 95, an unbelievable 95,” the host said.
The event kicked off with an all-star lineup featuring Jessica Mauboy, Jack Jones, John Stevens, Mahalia Barnes and Human Nature, who performed some of John Farnham’s songs, including “Age of Reason,” the title track from his 1988 album Age of Reason, “Reasons” from his album Whispering Jack and “Have a Little Faith (In Us)” from his 1996 album Romeo’s Heart.

Adding to the list of heartwarming tributes were virtual appearances by top stars such as Celine Dion, who performed via a live satellite simulcast from a stage in Paris, where she sang “You’re the Voice.”
“John, you’ve always been such a deep inspiration to me; I always loved to hear you sing,” Dion said. “The way you sang one song in particular is one of my very, very favourite performances ever.”
Also appearing via simulcast was Hugh Jackman, who performed John Farnham’s 1990 track, “Talk of the Town.”
Recalling the time when he snuck in to watch the music icon during his sound check at the Perth Entertainment Centre, he mentioned being “a fan” of him for as long as he can remember.
“I have seen you at least 30 times live, and I would say you are one of the greatest I have ever seen onstage,” Jackman said. “The person I am onstage, the entertainer I am, is largely because of you.”
The tribute was not only a celebration of John Farnham’s music legacy but also an effort to raise awareness and support for Head and Neck Cancer Australia.
Following his 2022 oral cancer diagnosis and after undergoing extensive reconstructive surgery , the “Pressure Down” hitmaker has experienced a significant decline in his health in recent months, according to his family.
