Pat Cummins breaks silence on Scott Boland’s ruthless WTC Final snub: Don’t feel like you’re...

Australia captain Pat Cummins has thrown his support behind Scott Boland after the veteran pacer was overlooked for the World Test Championship final.

At 36, Scott Boland does not have too much time left in his career, and many believe that the pacer is running out of time. Even though he has done well in the limited opportunities that he has got in the Australian Test team, he has not really managed to cement his spot in the playing eleven.

With Marcus Labuschagne edging out Sam Konstas for the opening spot, Cameron Green returning to the playing eleven, and Josh Hazlewood available, Scott Boland faced the axe again. The snub came after his starring display in the Sydney Test against India earlier this year. The right-arm pacer picked up a career-best 10 wickets to help Australia win the Test and seal their spot in the WTC final.

Pat Cummins on Scott Boland's omission:

With Scott Boland facing another setback, Pat Cummins has thrown his support behind the pacer and has assured him that he still has a big role to play for the Test team.

"There are some guys where you genuinely say, 'You've done nothing wrong, don't change a thing'," said Cummins. "Scotty is just really unfortunate to miss out. Joshy Hazlewood comes back in. We know how good he is."

"The message to Scotty is there's a lot of Test cricket coming up in the next couple of years, and just because you're mid-30s, it doesn't mean (that because) you're missing this Test, it's one Test off your career.

"By having a squad of fast bowlers, hopefully we can extend all our careers for an extra couple of years. It's really unfortunate Scotty misses this but the message to him is, 'Don't feel like you're running out of time'. We've still got lots of time, hopefully, in his career," he added.

Overall, Boland has played 13 Tests so far after making his debut in 2021. In those 13 Tests, the right-arm pacer has picked up an impressive 56 wickets at an average of just 17.66. Meanwhile, Cummins and his men have their eyes set on the WTC final.

The defending champions will be facing South Africa in the final, which is scheduled to be played from June 11. Australia can create history by becoming the first-ever team to win the WTC title twice.
