The Cairo Criminal Court on Thursday sentenced a businessman who murdered his wife, Maram A., in the Fifth Settlement area, to seven years in prison with hard labor.
The crime occurred following a dispute between them that escalated into violence. The accused strangled his wife, causing a fatal cut to her throat and abrasions around her neck.
Police investigations confirmed that the victim required multiple surgeries before she succumbed to her injuries.
There was suspicion of foul play behind her death.
Security forces arrived at the hospital, where the victim was transferred in critical condition.
Before the investigating authorities, the suspect confirmed that they had not had any major disagreements since their marriage a year earlier, especially since each of them had children from previous marriages. He has a son, while she has two daughters.
However, a fight broke out between them that day. He said, “I didn’t feel myself… It was a disagreement like any other, but things got out of control.”
The shock didn’t end there. After the assault, the accused didn’t rush her to the hospital, but instead left her at home for five days, where she suffered from her severe injuries.
During that time, the suspect began searching for a doctor on social media to treat her.
When he finally decided to transfer her to the hospital, her condition had deteriorated severely. She was placed on a ventilator and underwent six surgeries in an attempt to save her life, but her injuries were severe.
The medical report indicated that she had suffered an eight-cm tear in her pharynx, which led to severe bleeding and subsequent sepsis in her trachea and pharynx.
