Two Scrubs stars want to be in the show's upcoming revival.
Judy Reyes, who played Nurse Carla, and John C. McGinley, who portrayed Dr. Perry Cox, have both expressed interest in returning to the show's upcoming reboot.
While speaking to TV Insider for a May 26 interview, Reyes said she would love to play Carla again.
“Sure! I would love to know what Carla’s doing 25 years later," said Reyes, who last portrayed the nurse during the show's 8th season, which premiered in 2009.
Meanwhile, McGinley said he believes he will be filming for the Scrubs reboot during a May 2025 interview with Channel Guide, as reported by Remind Magazine. He suggested he was looking forward to working on the project.
“We’re going to be wrapped by the middle of August [for the new HBO medical sitcom also starring Steve Carell]. and then presumably I’ll be going off to do (I’ll be overlapping with) Scrubs. There’s no offer yet, but there will be. That’s an exciting thing for a 65-year-old white male to be able to say in 2025. We’re not exactly in vogue," said McGinley to the publication.
According to TV Insider, Zach Braff, who portrayed Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian, has signed onto the upcoming Scrubs reboot. The publication reported that the showrunner of Scrubs, Bill Lawrence, told Deadline that the show's reboot was in the works in December 2024.
“I think it’s getting really close to being figured out, and I think in a good way. Big chunks of the creative team behind the camera, and most of it from in front of the camera, are all super invested and excited, so very close," said Lawrence during the interview with Deadline.
Lawrence also said why he thinks the show should have a reboot.
“We’ve been talking about a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo. A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot," said Lawrence. "But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people that go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it’s a calling. There’s no cliché ‘rich doctors playing golf’ — that’s not what it is anymore. So I think that, no matter what it is, it would be a giant mistake not to do as a combo of those two things.”
