North Carolina linebacker Amare Campbell is reportedly entering the portal, making a standout defender available in the spring transfer window.
According to Matt Zenitz with CBS Sports/247 Sports, Campbell is making the call after a breakout sophomore season with the Tar Heels. After appearing in 11 games as a true freshman, Campbell was the team’s 2nd-leading tackler as a sophomore in addition to serving a major role as a pass rusher for North Carolina.
Now, it appears he will not be sticking around for Bill Belichick’s first season in Chapel Hill:

Campbell’s full numbers for the 2024 season came in at 76 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. He finished 2nd or tied for 2nd on UNC in every category as a young leader for the defense. That came after he registered 14 tackles, 2 TFL, a sack and an interception as a rotational performer as a true freshman.
Coming out of high school, Campbell was a 3-star prospect from Unity Reed High School in Manassas, Virginia. He eventually landed with the Tar Heels over offers from West Virginia, Maryland, Duke and others.
Upon entering the transfer portal, Campbell received a 3-star transfer rating but is listed as the No. 2 LB available in the portal per 247 Sports. We’ll see where he winds up for the 2025 season down the road.
