Students secure employment at first annual ‘Hire Me Fair’ at Roosevelt High School

A new job fair at Roosevelt High School earlier this month connected Weld Re-5J School District students with local employment opportunities.

The district’s work-based learning program hosted its first-ever Hire Me Fair on April 4, featuring 30 local vendors and welcomed more than 120 students from three school districts, according to a Weld RE-5J news release from Rebecca Albert Vollrath, director of career and innovation. Jennifer Boresen, Roosevelt High School’s work-based learning coordinator, organized the fair.

In the shared efforts to find employment, students dressed professionally, supplied their updated resumes and came prepared to speak with hiring managers, the release said. Many employers offered on-the-spot interviews and job offers to the enthusiastic group of students.

“This wasn’t just about exploring careers,” Boresen said. “The focus of the event was to get our students hired. Often, career fairs are about career exploration — we wanted to host a fair for students who are ready for their future.”

In addition to securing jobs, attendees gained valuable real-world experience, reflecting Weld RE-5J’s commitment to transitioning high schoolers into employment.

The collaborative event also benefited local employers, who had a chance to interact with the future workforce.

“We are deeply grateful to our local industry partners for showing up for our students in such a meaningful way,” Vollrath said. “Events like the Hire Me Fair demonstrate the powerful impact of school-business partnerships and highlight our shared commitment to economic growth and workforce development in our region.”

The Weld RE-5J program plans to make the Hire Me Fair an annual student-employer engagement event that continues to grow.
