(KRON) – A person was stabbed while asleep in a car near Lake Merritt on Sunday, according to the Oakland Police Department.
Oakland police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of 11th Street around 8 a.m. on Sunday. Arriving officers located a victim who informed officers that they were not shot, but stabbed while sleeping inside their car. Police said the victim described the weapon as a “sharp object.” The assailant fled on foot after the stabbing.
The victim walked to the 1000 block of Madison Street and entered another vehicle after the assault.
Medical personnel responded and took the victim to a local hospital. The victim is currently listed in stable condition.
OPD said the case is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department Felony Assault Unit at 510-238-3426.
