SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Fashion retailer Zara will open a new flagship store in San Francisco's Union Square, according to SF Mayor Daniel Lurie. The retailer, which announced plans to close its existing Union Square store last year, will open the new flagship store at 400 Post Street, Mayor Lurie said.
"Zara is opening a flagship store in Union Square!" Mayor Lurie said on X, formerly Twitter. "This expansion is another vote of confidence in our city."
The new location will be a block away from Zara's current Union Square store, which remains open, despite plans to close it. The new flagship store will be four stories and 40,000 square feet -- nearly twice the size of the existing store -- according to the San Francisco Chronicle, which first reported news of the new store coming.

Mayor Lurie, standing outside the location of the new store, which was once home to a massive Borders location, called the Zara expansion a sign that the neighborhood -- and the city -- are rebounding.
"Union Square is on it way back, San Francisco is on its way back," Lurie said.
