Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that a low pressure area has developed over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal, triggered by an upper air cyclonic circulation observed yesterday over the southeast Bay of Bengal and its surrounding regions.
According to the IMD, this low pressure system is expected to move northwestwards, reaching the southwest Bay of Bengal by April 8. Following this, it is likely to shift nearly northwards, moving across the westcentral Bay of Bengal over the next 48 hours.
The weather agency is closely monitoring its progression and potential impacts.
The regional meteorological office has forecast light to moderate rainfall across several Odisha districts due to this system, including Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, and Koraput. In some of these areas, rainfall may be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, with wind speeds anticipated to range between 30-40 km/h.
IMD’s predictions further indicate that coastal and southern Odisha could experience rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days, specifically on April 8, 9, and 10.
