Mohsin Naqvi officially elected as President of Asian Cricket Council

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has taken over a major leadership role as the new president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The 46-year-old will assume the Asian Cricket Council President position officially following the ACC General Council meeting.

Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva is currently serving as the interim head of the Asian Cricket Council. Mohsin Naqvi was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board last year for a three-year term. The PCB Chairman is set to take charge of the Asian Cricket Council.

Jay Shah served as Asian Cricket Council President till 2024 but stepped down to assume the role of International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman. Mohsin Naqvi was initially expected to succeed him. However, Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva took over charge as President of the ACC.

Mohsin Naqvi has been elected as the president of the Asian Cricket Council for a two-year term. The decision was made during a virtual meeting of the ACC Executive Committee. While an official announcement from the Asian Cricket Board is still pending, Pakistani journalists have reported the news.

Pakistan Cricket Going Through a Challenging Phase

Pakistan cricket is going through a challenging phase after a winless exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Their struggles continued in New Zealand, where they lost two matches in the ongoing ODI series under Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy. Pakistan have been completely outplayed in the ODI series.

Before the ODIs, Pakistan endured a disappointing five-match T20I series loss against the Kiwis. The revamped T20 squad managed just one win, suffering a 1-4 defeat. The third and final ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand is set to take place on April 5 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.
