The decision comes off the back of the return of the series. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 5 dropped on Hulu on Sept. 10 with just five episodes, just half of the usual amount fans get to watch. It was all that was filmed ahead of the 2023 video of Taylor Frankie Paul resurfacing and her season of The Bachelorette being pulled from the ABC schedule.
As that news grew, the women of MomTok shared their opinions and their side, with Matthews making it clear that she wasn’t Team Taylor. She also wasn’t Team Dakota, and throughout the fifth season of the series she cemented her belief that she was Team Kids. She just wanted them to be happy, cared for, and safe.
Matthews repeatedly made it clear that the children were suffering from the continued exposure to Paul and Dakota Mortensen’s drama. However, it was only a week ago that she decided to step away from the show.
In a statement on Instagram, Matthews said, “I’ve said from the beginning of this that I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse. There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly. And for me personally, continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical. It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone’s healing and the millions of people watching.”

I was in that enabling cycle for years, and I’m not going to be a part of that again! love you all.”
