Texas could be without a key contributor for the remainder of the 2025 college baseball season.
Longhorn outfielder Max Belyeu is dealing with a thumb injury that requires surgery. According to Jacob Rudner of Baseball America, Belyeu’s status is week-to-week. Per Rudner, Belyeu’s injury requires surgery and he may not be back until the NCAA Tournament.
It’s a notable blow for a Texas squad doing well its first season of SEC play. Jim Schlossnagle’s squad is ranked No. 3 in the country by BA, sporting a 23-3 overall record and 8-1 mark in conference competition.
Belyeu, a junior, is coming off a sensational sophomore season. The 6-2, 215-pounder was the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2024 after slashing .329/.423/.667 with 18 home runs, 53 RBIs, 50 runs scored and 15 doubles.
A projected top prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft, Belyeu was off to a scorching start in 2025. In 24 games, his average and OBP were up from 2024 at .358 and .465. His slugging percentage was down a touch to .642, but still good for a 1.067 OPS. He had 6 home runs and 22 RBIs on the year so far.
Belyeu was injured in the Friday night game at Mizzou, a 15-4 win via in 7 innings via the run rule. Texas went on to sweep the series, taking both games of a Saturday doubleheader.
The Longhorns, without Belyeu, will look to add to their 6-game win streak on Tuesday against Texas State before hosting Georgia for a 3-game series beginning Friday.
