Police are searching for a man who they say sold nearly 90 grams of cocaine to undercover investigators and was found with another 212 grams during his arrest, after he failed to appear at a status conference last week in relation to the charges.
Police originally arrested 33-year-old Frieidi Varela-Perez March 20 after the Weld County Drug Task Force had been building a case against him since January, according to several affidavits for his arrest.
Varela-Perez faces four charges for drug distribution, as well as a special offender charge for three firearms allegedly found along with the cocaine in his camper when he was arrested, according to Colorado court records. He appeared for a hearing on advisement after posting $50,000 bond before failing to show up at a status conference March 28, records show.
In January, a criminal informant told members of the task force of a man — later identified as Varela-Perez — allegedly selling cocaine in the Greeley area.
On Jan. 21, an undercover investigator contacted Varela-Perez to buy an ounce of cocaine. The two met later that day in the 1600 block of 2nd Avenue, and the investigator purchased the cocaine for $1,100, according to an affidavit.
Police say the cocaine from that deal tested presumptive positive and weighed 28.4 grams.
On Feb. 11, the investigator contacted Varela-Perez, this time to buy two ounces of cocaine. The two met up later that day in the 3000 block of 8th Avenue in Evans, police say, and the investigator purchased two ounces for $2,100.
The cocaine tested presumptive positive and weighed 60.8 grams, according to an affidavit.
On March 6, a different undercover officer contacted Varela-Perez to buy an ounce of cocaine and the two agreed to meet later in that day in the 3000 block of 8th Avenue in Evans.
When the undercover investigator arrived, Varela-Perez contacted him to let him know a woman — later identified as 18-year-old Estefany Quintana-Orozco — was there with the drugs, according to an affidavit.
During the transaction, the investigator asked Quintana-Orozco if he could buy another ounce and police say she agreed she would pick up the second ounce before making the transaction.
Quintana-Orozco left and police followed her to a trailer in the 1000 block of B Street — where Varela-Perez is known to reside, according to an affidavit.
Once she left the address, police pulled over Quintana-Orozco on U.S. 85 after they say she failed to stop at a red light. She was in possession of 56.7 grams — just over two ounces — of cocaine, according to an affidavit. She was arrested and faces one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, according to Colorado court records.
Varela-Perez later texted the undercover investigator that Quintana-Orozco’s vehicle had broken down, and that was why she was unable to complete the deal, police say.
On March 11, police obtained a search warrant for Varela-Perez’s B Street property, according to the affidavit. Officers contacted Varela-Perez, who told them the cocaine was under the bed in a camper on the property.
Police say they found 181.4 grams of cocaine under the bed, and another 32.8 grams in a corner cabinet of the camper. Officers also found two 9 mm handguns and a 12-gauge shotgun within arms reach of the large bag of cocaine, according to an affidavit.
In total, police say Varela-Perez sold 89.2 grams of cocaine to the undercover investigator and was in possession of another 214.2 grams of cocaine when arrested — totaling 303.4 grams or nearly 11 ounces, according to an affidavit.
Quintana-Orozco was arrested with another 56.7 grams, police say.
Police say all the cocaine tested presumptive positive and was weighed at the Greeley Police Department.
