Boys basketball
No. 10 Colorado Academy 62, No. 15 University 37, in Denver: Hoping to capitalize off a 67-62 second round overtime win Saturday against second-seeded Peak to Peak (22-3), the Bulldogs’ Cinderella story came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state tournament at the Denver Coliseum. University ended its season with an 18-8 record. Colorado Academy (17-9) led 11-8 after one quarter and 21-14 after two, methodically pulling away throughout the game. Junior John Elbe led the Bulldogs with 14 points.
No. 4 Prospect Ridge Academy 87, No. 5 Fort Lupton 64, in Denver: Fort Lupton’s strong season, and its 16-game win streak, came to an abrupt end in the quarterfinals of the 4A boys hoops state tournament at the Denver Coliseum. The Bluedevils previously hadn’t lost since Jan. 7 when it fell at home to Resurrection Christian, 79-52. Prospect Ridge (20-6) quickly took control, leading 23-9 after one quarter.
Girls basketball
No. 1 University 65, No. 9 D’Evelyn 23, in Denver: University gained some big-time redemption against a D’Evelyn program that eliminated the Bulldogs from the postseason each of the past two years. The top-seeded Bulldogs wasted no time establishing their dominance in the quarterfinals of the 4A state tournament. They led 20-6 after one quarter and 36-12 after two. Seniors Janay Kravig and Addison Harding scored 17 and 15 points, respectively, combining to shoot 13 of 19 from the floor. Junior Maddie McNair chipped in eight points, seven rebounds and five assists. University improved to 26-0. It will face No. 4 Holy Family (17-8) in the semifinals at 2:15 p.m. Friday back in the Denver Coliseum.

Boys basketball
No. 3 Strasburg 75, No. 6 Highland 43, in Denver: Highland couldn’t keep pace with Strasburg’s offense in this 3A quarterfinals game at the University of Denver. This was the third time this season the Huskies lost to the Indians (22-4). Strasburg quickly assumed control, going up 22-14 in the first quarter and 43-23 by halftime. Highland ended its season with a 19-7 record.
Girls basketball
No. 1 Resurrection Christian 54, No. 8 Strasburg 28, in Denver: Resurrection Christian comfortably defended its top seed in the 3A quarterfinals, improving to 24-2 overall. With this victory, the Cougars avenged their only loss this season to a fellow 3A team. Strasburg beat Resurrection Christian 67-63 in overtime on Jan. 24 in Strasburg. With this win at the University of Denver, the Cougars advanced to a semifinals game against either No. 5 Colorado Springs Christian (22-3) or No. 4 Cedaredge (25-0) at 10 a.m. Friday back at the University of Denver. That quarterfinals game ended after the Tribune’s print deadlines.

No. 1 Resurrection Christian (24-2) vs. TBD, 10 a.m.: Resurrection Christian’s girls are one win away from their first title game appearance in program history. The Cougars will face the winner of a 3A quarterfinals game between No. 5 Colorado Springs Christian (22.3) and No. 4 Cedaredge (25-0) late Thursday afternoon at the University of Denver. That game took place after the Tribune’s print deadlines. Senior Olivia Klein (18.8 ppg, 3.1 apg, 3.5 spg) paces a senior-led Resurrection Christian. The Cougars have outscored their three state tournament opponents by an average of 56-30 per game. Their only two losses this season were against Strasburg — whom Resurrection Christian beat in Thursday’s quarterfinals — and 4A semifinalist University.
No. 1 University (26-0) vs. No. 4 Holy Family (17-8), 2:15 p.m.: University could take one monumental step closer to its first girls basketball state title in program history. While the Bulldogs are coming off a 65-23 semifinals win Wednesday against No. 9 D’Evelyn (22-4), Holy Family earned a 58-39 semifinals win against No. 5 Alamosa (19-7). University has outscored its three state tournament opponents an average of 63-24. The Tigers have outscored their state tournament opponents an average of 63-32. Seniors Addison Harding (10.9 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.9 spg, 1.7 bpg) and Janay Kravig (10.1 ppg, 2.8 apg, 2.2 spg) lead a balanced Bulldogs squad. Juniors Gracie Ward (14.4 ppg, 2.3 apg, 2.6 spg) and Alexcia Oaxaca (11.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.2 spg) lead Holy Family. These two teams met earlier this season, as University earned a 53-38 road win against the Tigers on Feb. 24.
No. 6 Windsor (20-6) vs. No. 2 Mesa Ridge (25-1), 7:15 p.m.: Windsor will face a familiar foe in this 5A boys state tournament game at the Denver Coliseum. Mesa Ridge narrowly defeated the Wizards in the state title game, 57-53, a year ago and it defeated Windsor 79-52 in the semifinals two years ago. Mesa Ridge is pursuing its third consecutive 5A state title. The Grizzlies are coming off a 61-45 win against No. 7 Standley Lake (20-6) in the quarterfinals Friday. They’ve outscored their three state tournament opponents an average of 65-48. Windsor has outscored its state tournament opponents an average of 68-45. The Wizards earned a dramatic 72-64 win in the quarterfinals against Dakota Ridge on Friday. Junior Madden Smiley (20.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 3.4 apg, 2.1 spg) leads Windsor. Senior Bryce Riehl (17.5 ppg, 2.6 apg, 3.6 spg) leads Mesa Ridge.
