The Kiwis have successfully made it into the finals. The New Zealand team defeated South Africa in an epic semifinal to clinch an easy victory by 50 runs to make it into the finals of the 50-over ICC tournament after six years. Now, the Kiwis will be going back to Dubai to play the finals against the unbeaten India in the epic ICC Champions Trophy final. It was a challenge for both teams, as New Zealand have already faced a defeat against the Indian side on the same ground on Sunday, where the final is going to happen. In the post-match presentation, New Zealand’s captain, Mitchell Santner, shared what he is expecting from the Indian side.
Mitchell Santner on facing India
Speaking on playing the finals, Mitchell Santner is focusing on increasing Rohit Sharma’s toss losing streak. Talking about the last encounter with India, he said, “Being there and being put under pressure was good. I think the bowlers bowled well to chip wickets at the top. I think winning the toss will be nice as well.” Speaking on the match, he said that it’ll be interesting to repeat the semifinal feat. “It’s a pretty good feeling, today we were challenged by a good side, we will head to Dubai where we already faced India earlier. We will rest and will go again” he added.
Rohit Sharma’s toss losing streak
Rohit Sharma seems to be on a streak of bad luck when it comes to tosses. During the last match aginst Australia, he lost his 11th consecutive toss in a row. This streak started during the 2023 ODI World Cup Final. Since then, Rohit has lost the toss in matches against teams like Sri Lanka, England, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. Fortunately, these tosses haven’t affected India’s performance overall. He’s just one toss away from equaling Brian Lara to become the most unlucky captain to lose toss in ODIs.
