Donald Trump has paused military aid to Ukraine following his clash with Volodymyr Zelensky last week, the White House has confirmed
The official said the US is pausing and reviewing aid to ensure it is contributing to a solution, Reuters reported
The pause will last until Trump determines the country’s leaders demonstrate a good-faith commitment to peace, according to Bloomberg and Fox News reports.
“This is not permanent termination of aid, it’s a pause,” Fox News quoted a Trump administration official as saying.
They added the move was in response to the Ukrainian president’s “conduct” over the last week.
Bloomberg reported that all US military equipment not currently in Ukraine would be paused, including weapons in transit on aircraft and ships or waiting in transit areas in Poland.
It added that Trump ordered Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth to execute the pause.
The move come hours after Trump told reporters at the White House that Zelensky “should be more appreciative” of Washington’s support.
The US president warned Zelensky the US won’t put up with his actions for much longer, after the Ukrainian leader said a deal to end the war between Ukraine and Russia “is still very, very far away”.
Trump said in a statement on Truth Social: “This is the worse statement that could have been made by Zelensky and America will not put up with it much longer!”
Trump also appeared to criticise the outcome of the defence summit hosted by Keir Starmer with several world leaders at the weekend, saying: “Europe… stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the US – probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What were they thinking?”
