A RARE Nestle chocolate bar has been spotted on supermarket shelves with fans claiming it’s “just like” a discontinued classic treat.
Animal Bars were axed from the UK after almost 60 years on the market in November 2023, leaving chocolate fans distraught.
The iconic milk chocolate treat, which was a staple for many childhoods in the ’90s and ’00s, featured two different animals moulded onto its surface.
But now, customers have spotted a similar alternative from Nestle in Poundland stores.
The Swiss chocolatier’s Jungly Figuritas, a sweet treat imported from Spain, have been seen selling in the budget supermarket’s stores for just £1.
Harking back to the iconic Animal Bars, Jungly Figuritas are shaped into various wild animals, including lions, crocodiles and giraffes.
However, instead of being a singular bar, these chocolates come in individual pieces.
On top of this, while the discontinued Animal Bar was purely made of milk chocolate, Jungly Figuritas have the bonus addition of biscuit pieces.
A product description on the Nestle Family Club website reads: “This bag contains figurines in the shape of milk chocolate animals and pieces of JUNGLY biscuits.
“100% sustainably grown cocoa selected through Nestlé Cocoa Plan. Rainforest Alliance certified.”
A range of versions of the treat are sold in Spain, including a chocolate bar variety that comes in milk, white, and dark chocolate options.
Posts seen online indicate that the product has been available in the UK at Heron Foods and Farmfoods stores, as well as at Poundland.
Fans have reminisced over the long-lost Animal Bars and were excited by the prospect of the newly available Jungly Figuritas.
One shopper said: “OMG they remind me of animal bars.”
Another added: “Animal bars. OMG I used to love them.
“Six years ago I would just get a slushy and them when out.”
Nestle confirmed in November 2023 that its Animal Bars were being discontinued, to the disappointment of many fans.
The chocolate company said declines in sales were behind its axing, with its iconic Caramac bar also being discontinued for similar reasons at the same time.
Chocolate lovers took to Facebook to share their despair after its cancellation, with one saying: “Sad they’ve discontinued these.
“My kids loved them when they were small.”
Another said: “Isn’t it mental that they are discontinuing something so popular.”
“They’re gluten free so I use them as well. Gutted,” claimed a third.
A fourth user said: “Oh crap. I love these I may have to stock up.”
Someone else added: “I can’t remember the last time I saw an Animal bar.”
