Colby Covington is adamant Dustin Poirier wants no part of him.
Ever since Covington (17-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) parted ways with his longtime gym American Top Team, he’s engaged in several beefs with his former teammates.
He wound up fighting former friend-turned-foe Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272, beating him by a lopsided decision. As Poirier (30-8 MMA, 22-7 UFC) looks to compete one more time before hanging up his gloves, Covington doesn’t think he’ll end up getting the fight.
“No word on the Dustin fight,” Covington said on his YouTube channel. “He’s been scared of my shadow for years, ever since we trained together at that old gym. The guy just knows what I bring to the table. He knows he can’t beat me. He can’t even get a lucky punch on me.
“He’s not even willing to try like his friend Jorge (Masvidal). At least he tried. Dustin doesn’t even want to try. He’s going to go into retirement knowing that I owned his soul, and he didn’t defend his family’s honor and legacy, so Dustin’s a little cuck. He’s Louisiana swamp trash and he’s a pathetic little b*tch.”
Poirier hinted at potential fight news soon, with the UFC working to make it happen in his home state of Louisiana. When asked about Paddy Pimblett, Poirier shut that down, claiming that he’s only open to a legend for his final fight.
