The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to reveal the renovated National Stadium in Karachi with a grand ceremony on Tuesday, February 11. This comes after concerns about its readiness for the ICC Champions Trophy, starting on February 19, were dispelled. The PCB announced that the public could attend the musical ceremony and event honouring the construction workers for free. These celebrations will occur just before the ODI tri-series match between Pakistan and South Africa at the stadium.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi will host the event to honour approximately 500 construction workers. The National Stadium, which last hosted an international match in July 2023, is scheduled to host three Champions Trophy matches. Earlier concerns were raised about the readiness of Pakistan’s venues including Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi for the Champions Trophy. However, the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore was successfully refurbished in time for the first two matches of the ongoing ODI tri-series featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand.

The National Stadium will host the Champions Trophy opener between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19 and the final two matches of the tri-series, concluding on February 14. Pakistan invested 17 billion rupees to renovate the three stadiums for the Champions Trophy.
The newly constructed pavilion boasts world-class dressing rooms for both players and match officials and high-quality hospitality suites. Built-in around four months, the facility showcases the dedication and efficiency behind the rapid transformation of the stadium, according to the PCB.

Alongside the new pavilion, several major upgrades have been completed to enhance the playing and viewing experience, including installing 350 LED lights for better broadcast quality, adding two digital replay screens, and placing over 5,000 new chairs for enhanced spectator comfort.
PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi expressed his satisfaction with completing the renovation work, stating, “This upgrade is a testament to our vision of elevating Pakistan’s cricketing venues to international standards. The National Bank Stadium, which last saw a major overhaul during the 1996 World Cup, now stands as a modern, world-class facility that will not only host domestic and international matches but also provide players and fans with a top-tier experience.”
