Starting games on time has been a problem for the Blackhawks this season, so seeing how they came out of the gates on New Year’s night against one of the best teams in the NHL was going to be interesting — especially when the Blackhawks beat the Stars less than one week ago in Dallas. It took a while 13 seconds for the Blackhawks to take back the lead. Nine minutes later, Ilya Mikheyev powered his way to the front of the net to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead. The Blackhawks out-scored the Stars 2-0 in the second period.
Almost four minutes into the third period, Mikheyev attacked by himself as his linemates went for a change and he fired a seemingly harmless shot at Jake Oettinger’s chest. Harmless… until it went in somehow and the Blackhawks had a three-goal lead. That lead was down to just one with 16.7 second left in regulation, but the Blackhawks held on to beat Dallas for the second time this week.
Star 1: Artyom Levshunov
After playing some of the best games of his NHL career to date since the Christmas break, it felt like it was only a matter of time until Levshunov scored again. He had assists in four of his last fives games coming into tonight, and took his time before scoring a power play goal in the first period.

Between scoring against Nashville on Nov. 28 and finding the back of the net against the Islanders on Tuesday night, Teräväinen went 13 games with one (1) assist to show for his efforts. He’s now scored in consecutive games for the first time this season.
