CHICAGO BEARS VS. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL) — There is still time to catch up on the MNF booth drama before kickoff. And if that is something you want to dig into before the final game of Week 8 kicks off, then this piece by The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand has everything you want. If that isn’t in your wheelhouse, then let me take you back to a simpler time in the booth:
This game featured the coldest Tom Brady monologue, only 6 years into his career t.co/g9pYkFFWN5
If you ever wondered why we have so many ball-knowers now, it’s because this is what our broadcasts sounded like growing up.
Sigh. We didn’t know how good we had it back when we had Tony Kornheiser spitting bars in an informative and entertaining way. Don’t get it twisted. I know that Kornheiser wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea in the booth. But when they let him do his thing, he was an A-plus contributor.
MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL PREVIEW — BEARS VS. SEAHAWKS
As discussed in BN Bears Bullets earlier on Monday, Jeffery Simmons’ debut might be the biggest for this team since Caleb Williams made his first start in 2024. It is certainly the most buzz we’ve had surrounding a defensive player’s arrival since the Khalil Mack trade. But if you think we’re excited, just imagine how Simmons feels. He goes from a 1-win Tennessee Titans team to a Chicago outfit that is led by the NFL’s most accurate quarterback. What a glow-up!
While Caleb Williams had the best reaction to the Simmons trade, I was curious to hear how the defensive tackle would respond to any questions about his trash-talking of the Bears quarterback — specifically, his painted nails comment — when he was a rookie in 2024. As expected, Simmons (via the Sun-Times) had a good answer:
“I’ve been a fan of Caleb. Of course, being on the other side and having to play against him, I’m not going to tell him that. I’m going to talk as much smack as I can.
“But now he’s on my team. Any teammate you ask about me, man, I have my teammate’s back, no matter if he’s on the other side of the ball or not. I’m going to talk the most smack to you when you’ve got a different color jersey on, but when we’re on the same team on Sundays, I go to war for any of my guys in the locker room. I hope Caleb would know that.”
…
“The comments a couple years ago about the nails is all part of my game, with the smack talk. I don’t know if you guys have heard, but I’m probably one of the best smack talkers. I talk a lot of smack when I’m on the field. I’m looking forward to being his teammate. We all know what type of player he is.”
Now that it’s water under the bridge, let’s go play some football!
Week 7 Highlights and In-Game Updates
If cool stuff in the game happens, it’ll go here. In the meantime, here’s ESPN’s Mina Kimes on the Jeffery Simmons trade.
A “league-changing” trade. Swoon.
