The Blackhawks play their final home game before the two-week break for the 4 Nations Face-Off tonight with the Nashville Predators in town. Unfortunately, the Blackhawks will have to face a team that, despite their awful record, is still offensively gifted with names like Stamkos and Forsberg out there. And the Blackhawks will have to do it without Jason Dickinson. We got some relatively encouraging news on Dickinson on Thursday, but we won’t see him in the game tonight or tomorrow evening in St. Louis. That’s a big hole in the lineup to fill. And his teammates know that.

Ben Pope at the Chicago Sun-Times wrote a terrific piece on the importance of Dickinson that obviously had the focus shift a little when he left the game with assistance on Wednesday night. I think if you’ve been here for more than 30 seconds over the past two years you have a pretty good idea of how I feel about Dickinson. He’s been the most valuable player on the roster for two years. He might not put up the offensive numbers, but he does a pretty good job of keeping the best players on the other side from putting up their expected big numbers. Him missing any extended time is going to be a huge test for the Blackhawks.

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) February 6, 2025 The Blackhawks did not call anyone up to replace Dickinson on Thursday, despite having an available roster spot after sending both Colton Dach and Artyom Levshunov to Rockford earlier this week. It’s worth noting the IceHogs have games in Texas tonight and tomorrow night. And the Blackhawks still had 13 forwards on the NHL roster after sending Dach down. So for now, it appears Philipp Kurashev will get to skate in a couple games this weekend. He really needs to take advantage of this opportunity because… I’m not sure how many more he’ll get here. I was initially going to weigh in on the recent criticism(s) of Connor Bedard here in our bullets this morning, but there’s so much going on around the 19-year-old right now I went ahead and broke that out into it’s own piece earlier this morning. I look forward to your thoughtful comments there.Let’s Talk About the Connor Bedard Criticism #Blackhawks www.bleachernation.com/blackhawks/2…[image or embed]

The cliff notes: they’ll figure it out. The good news: Arvid Söderblom becoming a viable NHL goaltender likely changes a lot of the internal dialogue for the Blackhawks’ front office. He’ll need new paper after this season, and he’s played well enough that he’s earned another contract here. What that means for the two veterans who were supposed to push him off the depth chart will be interesting to watch this summer, especially because Laurent Brossoit hasn’t even attended a full team practice yet (and it’s February). How the Blackhawks plan to address goaltender in their rebuild ⤵️ t.co/JssS6yqEKp
