LSG practice match takeaways for IPL 2026: Mayank Yadav leaks runs, Himmat Singh impressive

The IPL 2026 season is only a few days away now, and all teams are busy in prepping the best way possible, to lay their hands of the trophy. Out of that, Lucknow Super Giants will have a tall order, to reach that title, who have had two successive bad years. But this year, that pace glitch that had ruined their chances, seems to have gone away.

On Tuesday, LSG team appeared in their first practice match of the season, just to give an insight, as to which players could feature in the initial playing XI, apart from the certainties. The available players were divided in Team A and Team B, where the focus was on the youngsters, who needed a chance to prove, before the XI could be decided.

    Himmat Singh makes strong case

Delhi batter Himmat Singh got two chances to bat, and he made sure, he made the most of both of them. Starting for LSG A, he slammed 74 from 34 deliveries, while batting for LSG B, he went on to make 42 in 15. That could be a big step for him to make the XI, in a team that is filled with stars. There is Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran. Maybe he could be an option for Impact Sub player as well.

Ayush Badoni could get a promotion

His Delhi skipper Badoni too came up with a scintillating show. He got to his fifty in only 25 deliveries, and got out thereafter. He has all the shots in the book, to make a name for himself this season. Till now he has played 56 matches for the side, but then IPL 2026 could be his breakthrough season.

In fact, in a batting line-up that is filled with stars, Rishabh Pant would be tempted to get him up the order, maybe ahead of himself. One never knows.

    Mayank Yadav still rusty

Fans got to see Mayank Yadav bowling full tilt after a long, long time. Yes, he did pick up a couple of wickets, but then he leaked way too many runs. Badoni was particularly sever against him, and smashed him for 3-4 boundaries in the same over. The pace looked up, but the control was clearly missing. He should still not have a problem, in getting into the XI.

    M Siddharth impressive

On a day when LSG A went on to score 241 runs in 20 overs, M Siddharth gave away only 32 runs and picked up a wicket as well. As it is, Lucknow don’t have a great spin, and this performance would have only increased hopes of the management. His T20 career economy rate stands at 6.41 only.

Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Josh Inglis (WK), Matthew Breetzke, Himmat Singh, Akshat Raghuwanshi, Mukul Choudhary (WK), Mitchell Marsh, Wanindu Hasaranga, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed, Arshin Kulkarni, Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Mohsin Khan, M. Siddharth, Digvesh Singh, Akash Singh, Prince Yadav, Arjun Tendulkar, Naman Tiwari.
