GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A teenager has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in Gastonia, authorities confirm.
Sean James Curtis Simpson, 16, of Gastonia, has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in connection to the death of Zaquavious Dawkins.
The deadly shooting happened just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, in the 1500 block of North Chester Street in Gastonia.
Gastonia Police confirm with Queen City News that Simpson was taken into custody at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the Cox Road area.
Detectives are investigating the exact circumstances of what led up to the deadly shooting. This investigation remains open and active.
