More than 430 students and their teachers attended a Weld RE-5J outreach event that delivered career insights into workplace rights and safety.
The immersive experience on Jan. 17 included presentations from organizations like the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The event equipped students enrolled in career and technical education pathways with real-world knowledge needed to navigate the workforce.
Rebecca Albert Vollrath, Weld RE-5J’s director of career and innovation, feels “thrilled” to create interactions between experts and students in pathways of engineering, technology, culinary arts, construction, agriculture and more. Professionals shared industry tips and merged classroom instruction to potential careers.
“Events like these reflect the spirit of our community — working together to ensure our students are not only prepared academically but also equipped with the practical knowledge and skills needed to succeed in their careers,” Vollrath said.
The district prides itself on creating opportunities, such as the outreach event, for students to learn how to thrive in their educational and professional futures. Through strong links between students and industry experts, Weld RE-5J makes ongoing efforts to provide workforce readiness and career exploration to its students.
“The success of this opportunity is a direct result of the dedication and effort put in by our Work-Based Learning Coordinator Jennifer Boresen, whose commitment to connecting students with real-world experiences has made this program possible,” Vollrath said. “Her tireless work ensures that each step is thoughtfully planned, creating meaningful opportunities for growth and development.”
