Another Burden Breakout Prediction, Moore Bounce Back, and Other Bears Bullets

The line of folks predicting a Luther Burden III breakout season is long, and ESPN’s Benjamin Solak is the latest to join the party.

Earlier this week on ESPN, Solak picked a player from each team he believes will have a breakout season in 2026, and Burden was the Bears’ pick. “If you’re a fantasy football manager, you’re likely deeply versed in the Burden stats. He has been one of the hottest names in early drafts,” Solak wrote. “Burden was largely a screen-and-shot player to start the 2025 season, but he started to get more opportunities on crossers and underneath routes as coach Ben Johnson grew to trust him with the ball in his hands. With DJ Moore gone and Rome Odunze working back from a foot injury, the door is wide open for Burden to grab more targets — targets designed especially for him as a terrifying yards-after-catch threat. The sky is the limit here,” Solak continued. I typically like Solak’s analysis, so It’s nice to see he’s on the Burden train as well. I don’t need to add much in the way of personal commentary here; I’ve been adamant in multiple stories that I, too, believe a huge year is ahead for Burden.

    — Benjamin Solak (@BenjaminSolak) July 8, 2026 As Solak pointed out in that story, DJ Moore’s exit is a big reason so many are predicting a breakout season for Burden. Josh Edwards of CBS Sports believes that former Bears wide receiver DJ Moore is lined up for a bounce-back year of his own. “Buffalo likely overpaid for the wide receiver via trade, but that is further justification for the team’s plans for utilizing him. Moore is closer to the end of his career than the beginning, but there is a lot of unrealized production as Josh Allen’s primary target,” Edwards wrote. Mina Kimes shared a similar sentiment:

The Bills offense was *extremely* good out of multiple TE sets last year—but didn’t use them much for a few reasons. On the pod, @Pro__Ant and I discussed why Buffalo will likely boost their 12 and 13 personnel usage this year, and why DJ Moore is a factor… pic.twitter.com/E2cICSQdrF

    — First Things First (@FTFonFS1) July 8, 2026 On the other side of the coin, not everyone is head over heels for the 2026 Bears. Parkins’ FS1 colleague and friend, Nick Wright, believes the team is average at the offensive line and running back positions.

“I think this overrates the Bears supporting cast. I think they have an average OL & an average RB room… It’s almost making it to where anything short of being an MVP finalist, what’s wrong with Caleb?”@getnickwright thinks Danny shouldn’t like the Bears being ranked so high: pic.twitter.com/JyrzpVVps7

    — First Things First (@FTFonFS1) July 9, 2026 Saints quarterback Tyler Shough says rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson is a “carbon copy” of Chris Olave. The Bears will get an up-close look at that in Week 11 when they play the Saints at Soldier Field.

With the 23rd overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, the Chicago Cubs selected Ole Miss righty Cade Townsend on Saturday. Townsend, 21, is listed at 6’1″ and 185 lbs and is generally ranked among the top 30-40 prospects in the draft. Brett put together a good high-level overview of the Townsend selection, which you can read here. Tab floated the idea of a potential Patrick Kane and Joel Quenneville reunion in Anaheim in this morning’s Blackhawks Bullets.
