We’ll start our Monday with a nice piece from Ben Pope at the Chicago Sun-Times in which he caught up with Blackhawks forward Frank Nazar. They talked about him hoping to not see a dentist for replacement work any time soon and what he worked on this summer. A couple comments from Nazar stood out to me. First, regarding his summer preparation:
‘‘I’ve focused a lot on using my speed to attack wide or drive the play,’’ Nazar said. ‘‘And then if plays aren’t there, pulling and finding something late or finding the slot. [I’m] always trying to threaten with my feet and legs and speed.
‘‘Honestly, it’s all pretty similar [to previous years]. It’s just getting better at those things. . . . [Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov] does a thousand rims a day, all summer long. But he’s not bad at rims. He’s not changing up his play style. He’s just perfecting.’’
The other comment from Nazar that raised an eyebrow was regarding his focus on putting games away (following up on the comment Ben used in his tweet):
‘‘I know there were chances in some of those games that I had where, if I score, the game is over and we win,’’ Nazar said. ‘‘I think about those every day on the ice and in the gym. . . . You’ve got to go into each day as a new day, so it’s not something that’s holding me back. But if I get a chance like that, I don’t want to make the same mistake.’’

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) August 30, 2026 Nazar spent a lot of this summer working out in Chicago, and has spent a fair amount of time on the ice with Patrick Kane — both before he signed with the Blackhawks and now that they’re going to be teammates. I love this analytical comment from Nazar about Kane playing with the puck:‘‘He’s really good at pushing the puck into spaces,’’ Nazar said. ‘‘It’s funny. Everyone is, like, ‘Oh, his hands are great.’ And they are great, obviously. But the puck is not always on his stick when he’s stick-handling. If someone’s trying to slash him, the puck is not always on his stick to push away.’’
When Kane met with the media after signing with the Blackhawks, he specifically mentioned Nazar. I included this quote from Kane’s comments that day:“I’ve been skating with Frankie a lot and trying to develop some chemistry with him even though I’ve been signed for about one day,” Kane said. “In the back of my mind, maybe I’ll be playing with this guy. So maybe we try to develop some chemistry, but he’s another great player too. Very impressed with him, his work ethic, his speed, skill.”
