February 2025 DWP payment dates for benefits and pensions, in full

Benefits are set to rise by 1.7 per cent from April in line with last September’s rate of inflation.

But this increase comes amid a backdrop of planned reform of the entire system this spring, as the Government looks to slash the welfare bill.

The Lords Economic Affairs Committee called for urgent reform on Monday to the health-related benefits system after an inquiry into the relationship between the welfare system and long-term sickness.

It found the UK is now spending more on incapacity and disability benefits (almost £65bn) than defence.

Lord Bridges of Headley, Economic Affairs Committee chair, said: “The health benefits system is financially unsustainable, wastes human potential and – in the words of the Employment Minister – ‘does not work for anybody’.

“Given the pressure on the nation’s finances, tackling this must be a top priority for the Government.”

Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall promised radical changes to the system in October 2023 and a Green Paper outlining an overhaul of Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and other disability benefits is due to be published this spring.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) told The i Paper this week that “the current benefits system needs reform so it is fairer on the taxpayer and people get the support they need to move into work”.

A DWP spokesperson added: “Building on our Get Britain Working White Paper, we will bring forward proposals for reforming the health and disability benefits system in the Spring.

“This will be part of a proper plan to help disabled people who can work secure employment while ensuring support is provided for those who need it.”

Speaking last week, Sir Keir Starmer warned the Spending Review expected in June this year would be “ruthless” and reports from Downing Street have said “nothing is off the table”.

But detail on what changes will be implemented are yet to come and in the meantime payments will continue as expected.

When will benefits be paid in February?

Benefits are generally paid straight into the bank, building society or credit union account of the claimant.

When a payment date falls on a weekend or a bank holiday, then the claimant is usually paid on the working day before.

There are no bank holidays in February but payment dates which fall on weekend dates will mean the payments are shifted back to the working day before which is a Friday.

This is the DWP’s benefit payments schedule:

Attendance allowance – usually every four weeks Carer’s allowance – weekly in advance or every four weeks Child benefit – usually every four weeks, weekly for single parents and some benefits claimants Disability living allowance – usually every four weeks Employment and support allowance – usually every two weeks Income support – usually every two weeks Jobseeker’s allowance – usually every two weeks Maternity allowance – every two or four weeks Pension credit – usually every four weeks Personal independence payment (PIP) – usually every four weeks Tax credits – every four weeks or weekly Universal credit – every month

If a benefit payment is not made by the expected day, the DWP advises claimants to check the date on their award notice and bank account.

If the date is correct but the money has failed to arrive in a claimant’s account, they should then contact the appropriate helpline on the government website.

When will pensions be paid in February?

The basic state pension is paid directly into a claimant’s chosen bank, building society or credit union account like all other benefits.

Pension payments are on a four-week cycle, with the day on which it is paid dependent on the last two digits of a claimant’s national insurance (NI) number.

This is how NI numbers correspond to days of payment:

    00 to 19: Monday 20 to 39: Tuesday 40 to 59: Wednesday 60 to 79: Thursday 80 to 99: Friday

As there are no bank holidays in February, pensions payment dates will remain unchanged.

If there is a problem with pension payments, a helpline is available here on the DWP website.
