City of Greeley announces volunteer opportunities, closures for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Greeley residents have two opportunities to give back this month and next for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 20.

From 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 residents can stop by the Centennial Park Library, 2227 23rd Ave., to make no-sew fleece scarves, cat and dog toys and hygiene kits. Volunteers will also be able to create thank you cards for first responders.

Starting Jan. 20, the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center at the University of Northern Colorado will host a banned and challenged book drive in coordination with the American Library Association. The book drive will accept any new or gently used books that have been banned or challenged by schools and libraries. It will run until the end of February.

Donated books will be used to stock little free libraries across the UNC campus.

The book drive has specified donated books to be banned or challenged books to raise awareness of censorship attempts against books that are being deemed inappropriate for libraries.
