North Carolina has found its next defensive backs coach, according to a report.
The Tar Heels are set to hire Washington’s Armond Hawkins, per 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. The report notes that Hawkins worked for new North Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Belichick last season with the Huskies.

He’s known as a strong recruiter and held the assistant director of recruiting title at Washington and Arizona. He was also previously the director of high school relations at USC from 2020-21.
Hawkins was very accomplished as a player at the university of Idaho. He played 4 seasons for the Vandals and left the program with 129 tackles, 2 interceptions, 9 pass deflections and 5 fumble recoveries in his career.
North Carolina is continuing to build its coaching staff under Bill Belichick. The Tar Heels are also hard at work at acquiring talent via the transfer portal for their 2025 roster. Carolina has already earned 16 commits from transfers. The transfer class ranks No. 26 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
