If Target’s Bullseye’s Playground (you know, the spot in the front of the store near the entrance that has shelves of stuff usually priced at $5 or less) is your Shangri-La, then you are my people. The designated area doesn’t even have that much square footage, and yet I can easily spend 30 minutes picking through every single shelf to see what treasures might turn up. It has everything from kids’ crafts to seasonal decor, and I kind of love it.
Even though I frequent Target for basic household items I find cheaper there than at other stores, it’s not enough. I want more deals. And if it’s a deal on fun stuff I could probably live without, but it makes me smile? Well, that’s even better. The way I’m talking right now, you’re probably picturing a woman living in a house with rooms filled to the gills with random stuff, but I promise you that’s not the case. I know when to say when. (Well, mostly.)

Shop It!Target’s new Novelty Chicken Crock, available for $5 in Bullseye’s Playground, is one of those things I might not need, but look at how cute he is. And, honestly, he’ll look great right next to my whimsical cow butter dish. Because kitchen accessories should be fun, OK? And this chicken crock is nothing short of fun.
Made from ceramic, it has that classic, sturdy feel you want from a serving piece, while the playful chicken shape brings a little charm to the table. With a 13.5-fluid-ounce capacity, it’s just the right size for smaller portions, whether you’re using it for a dip, sauce, side or some other tasty little addition to dinner. And when dinner is done, a quick hand wash is all it needs to freshen up for its next appearance (don’t put this in the dishwasher as it could warp the colors).
Keep in mind that this one (as is the case with all Bullseye’s Playground finds) is only available in stores, so you’ll have to do a little in-person treasure hunting to bring this cheerful chicken home. But, personally, I think he’s worth it.
