A suspect who reportedly had multiple firearms and methamphetamine in his vehicle was arrested after a brief foot chase near businesses on Airport Park Boulevard, the Ukiah Police Department reported.
According to the UPD, an officer on foot patrol near FoodMaxx in the 1200 block of Airport Park Boulevard around 7:45 p.m. Jan. 2 “noticed a lifted Ford pickup with no license plates driving through the parking lot at what appeared to be a hasty rate of speed.”
When the officer saw the vehicle stop, he reported contacting the driver “who immediately began acting suspicious and denied driving the truck,” then reportedly ran away when the officer requested his identification.
The officer chased the man “as he veered across Airport Park Boulevard towards the Les Schwab Tire Center, and then back across the street towards the Ken Fowler Auto Center,” catching up to him and taking him into custody after “a brief struggle.”
The suspect was then identified as Kenneth M. Douglas, a 41-year-old Mendocino County resident reported to be on probation out of Lake County for possession of a dangerous weapon and who had “multiple previous convictions for drug possession.”
A search of Douglas reportedly revealed a switchblade and methamphetamine, and when officers searched his vehicle they reported finding “a loaded .22 caliber handgun on the front seat, a shotgun in the rear of the vehicle, and more methamphetamine in the cab of the truck.”
Douglas was arrested and booked into Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm and a controlled substance, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, along with other charges.
