Deshaun Watson is set to remain with the Cleveland Browns as the team restructures his contract to create additional cap flexibility.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that the adjustments ensure Watson’s presence in Cleveland next season while making his deal easier to manage after its expiration in 2026. The move doesn’t alter Watson’s $92 million in guaranteed money for the next two seasons.
Watson’s time in Cleveland has been marked by setbacks, including a season-ending Achilles injury suffered in Week 7 this year. Over the past two seasons, injuries have limited him to just 12 games, where he completed 63.4% of his passes for 1,148 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions in 2023.
Despite the challenges, the former Clemson star remains a three-time Pro Bowler with a career 66.2% completion rate, 17,904 passing yards, and 123 touchdowns since being drafted 12th overall by the Texans in 2017. With his future in Cleveland secured, Watson will look to bounce back in 2024.
