LEGENDARY Father of the Bride director Charles Shyer has died aged 83.
The dad-of-four died on Friday in Los Angeles, his children confirmed in a statement to Variety.
They said: “It’s with an indescribably heavy heart that we share the news of our beloved father, Charles Shyer’s passing.
“His loss leaves an unfillable hole in our lives, but his legacy lives on through his children and the five decades of wonderful work he’s left behind.
“We honor the extraordinary life he led and know there will never be another quite like him.”
Shyer directed films like Baby Boom and Irreconcilable Differences, and also co-wrote more hits like Private Benjamin and The Parent Trap.
The legend tragically leaves behind his daughters Annie Meyers-Shyer, 44, Hallie Meyers-Shyer, 37, and Sophia Shyer, 18, and son Jacob, 18.
His cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
In 1980, Shyer famously married write Nancy Meyers.
The couple were married for 19 years and collaborated on various legendary projects during the 80s and 90s.
Shyer and Meyers famously wrote Private Benjamin which was nominated for Best Origina Screenplay at the 53rd Academy Awards.
They divorced shortly after writing and producing the 1998 remake of Disney’s The Parent Trap starring Lindsay Lohan.
Shyer then went alone in directing and producing the period piece The Affair of the Necklace in 2001.
He also wrote, directed and produced the 2004 remake of Alfie, starring Jude Law.
The late star most recently wrote and directed the 2022 Netflix movie The Noel Diary.
He also co-wrote and produced the 2023 Best Christmas Ever movie.
