Fountain Valley football coach David Gutierrez has resigned after four seasons, he confirmed after the Barons’ season-ending banquet Tuesday night.
“Nothing negative but just mutually decided to move on,” Gutierrez said of his resignation.
This past season, Fountain Valley finished 1-9, including a 0-5 mark in the Foxtrot League. The Barons lost three games by seven points or less in a league that produced four playoff teams.
Gutierrez compiled a 9-32 record in his tenure. Fountain Valley was part of the challenging Sunset League before moving to the Foxtrot League in the creation of the Orange County Football Conference.
The Foxtrot ranks as the fifth strongest league in the conference.
Late in the summer of 2021, Gutierrez took the coaching reins at Fountain Valley just days before the start of fall camp following the resignation of coach Chris Anderson.
Gutierrez remains a physical education teacher at the school.
“It’s a great community,” he said of Fountain Valley’s football program, a two-time CIF-SS champion. “I’m just happy to be able to serve the program for four years.”
One of Gutierrez’s successes this fall was helping Fountain Valley host a Pop Warner league, creating a potential pipeline to the high school program.
