Austria are in form as they head into the tournament on a seven-game unbeaten run, winning six of those matches, and they have scored in 17 consecutive games - a run stretching back to a 2-0 defeat in Paris in 2022.
The 25-year-old forward was forced off during Monday's 1-0 win over Austria after his face hit opponent Kevin Danso's shoulder in the follow-through from an aerial challenge.
He was taken to Dusseldorf hospital where the break was confirmed.
"He has returned to the base camp of the French team," the FFF said.
"He will undergo treatment in the coming days, without undergoing surgery immediately."
He is reportedly considered questionable for the team's upcoming match against the Netherlands on Friday.
Mbappé was subbed out of his country's 1-0 win over Austria at the Euros on Monday after suffering the injury following a collision on a header attempt.
Austria fought hard to equalize but were unable to break through France's solid defense. The French team displayed excellent teamwork and tactical discipline, which ultimately helped them secure the win.
Overall, it was a thrilling game that showcased the high level of skill and competitiveness present in European football. Both teams should be commended for their efforts, but it was France who emerged as the deserving winners of this closely contested match.
