This week, Luis, Matt, and I released our game-by-game schedule predictions and set a total for the Chicago Bears’ wins this year. I went with 12-5, Matt went with 11-6, and Luis went with 10-7. I saw some pushback on my optimism—and by optimism, I mean one more win than last season—but if you think my 12 wins are optimistic, you’ll get a kick out of Kay Adams’ Super Bowl prediction: Bears vs. Broncos.
Adams said on Tuesday’s installment of Up and Adams that the Bears and Broncos were going to meet in this year’s Super Bowl: “Here’s my Super Bowl matchup: Broncos, Bears. I went back and forth on this … Denver would have been in the Super Bowl last year … I can not for the life of me understand why this team is getting the eighth-longest odds in the conference right now … For the Bears, again, trying to be pragmatic, they were a game away from being in the NFC Championship last year, they had the 29th-ranked defense, an offense that wasn’t always consistent, and I think last year was like a little apéritif for Caleb Williams,” Adams said. Essentially, the case for the Broncos is that if Bo Nix didn’t fracture his ankle in the Divisional Round against the Bills, Denver would have beaten New England in the AFC title game and already been in the Super Bowl. With Nix healthy and Jaylen Waddle added to a team that is largely the same, Denver is primed to finish what they didn’t last year. For Chicago, Adams believes that the secondary is better than it was last year, Williams is better, and the offense will be too. It’s hard to disagree with anything Adams said. The Bears’ defense is a question mark. But it’s not worse than it was last season, and even with Kyler Gordon and Coby Bryant’s injuries, it’s likely a smidge better. The offense will be better, and Williams has taken the loss to the Rams as motivation to take the next step in his development. For me, it’s not Super Bowl or bust for the Bears this season, but I can get behind Adams’ logic here.
