Vancouver Canucks lose to Oilers 3-2

The Vancouver Canucks suffered a tough loss to the Edmonton Oilers, falling 3-2 in a closely contested match. Despite putting up a strong fight, the Canucks were unable to secure the win against their division rivals.

The game started off with both teams playing aggressively, with the Oilers taking an early lead. However, the Canucks quickly responded with two goals of their own, tying up the score. The game remained tight throughout, with both teams battling for control of the puck and creating scoring opportunities.

The Edmonton Oilers will start Calvin Pickard in net for Game 4 of their playoff series with the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old journeyman netminder replaces Stuart Skinner, who was pulled in the third period of Edmonton's 4-3 loss to Vancouver on Sunday after giving up four goals on 15 shots.

"I'm expecting what I've seen from Calvin all season -- a goaltender who's competed very hard, played very well for us and piled up a lot of victories," Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said of the change.

The six-foot-one, 206-pound goalie went 12-7-1 with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.

Garland cut it to 2-1 at 6:54 of the third. His shot from the top of the slot glanced off Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse as it went through his legs and changed direction on Pickard.

“Any way you lose it’s disappointing, but we probably didn’t play well enough to win,” Garland said. “We fought back, which we’ve done a lot this year, but we gave them one too many plays.”

With 4:24 remaining, Silovs left his net to win a race to the puck against Evander Kane and avoid a breakaway opportunity.

Joshua's goal tied it 2-2 at 18:19 with Silovs pulled for the extra attacker.

“To tie it up like that and have a great push and then to lose like that, it’s disappointing,” Canucks captain Quinn Hughes said. “But these things happen and we have to move along.

Defenceman Tyler Myers, who typically pairs with Soucy, acknowledged the one-game loss would be a “big one,” but said Vancouver would stick to its system and bring the same level of intensity it has every game so far.

“We know they are going to play their most desperate game of the series and we have to do the same,” he said.
