The English Premier League title race took an unexpected turn as Crystal Palace faced off against Manchester City in a thrilling match that ended with a 2-4 victory for the reigning champions. The clash between these two teams showcased the intensity and competitiveness of the EPL, with both sides giving their all to secure the crucial three points.
Manchester City showed their class and quality throughout the game, dominating possession and creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities. Despite Crystal Palace putting up a strong fight and managing to find the back of the net twice, they were ultimately unable to contain City's attacking prowess.
Kevin De Bruyne said Phil Foden's form has "kept him on his toes" after scoring twice in a 4-2 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday to bring up his century of goals for Manchester City.
Foden shone in a central role as De Bruyne sat out the first five months of the season with a hamstring injury and hit a hat-trick with the Belgian on the bench for Wednesday's 4-1 thrashing of Aston Villa.
City fans all over the world will remember crucial strikes against Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United on the way to Premier League title successes as well as Champions League semi-final finishes against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
While he has contributed significantly by putting the ball in the net himself, his scoring tally stands alongside his first love – assisting team-mates.
Odsonne Edouard grabbed a late consolation for the hosts but with seven games remaining City are level on 70 points with Liverpool and two ahead of Arsenal, although both their title rivals have a game in hand.
Mateta had shocked the travelling City supporters with a goal in the third minute, but De Bruyne, who along with Haaland was rested for Wednesday's 4-1 win over Aston Villa, levelled in the 13th minute with an inch-perfect finish into the top corner.
The defending champions then took control as De Bruyne teed up Haaland again and this time the Norwegian striker finished, before the Belgian added a fourth - marking his century of goals for City since joining in 2015 - with a ferocious first-time shot.
Substitute Odsonne Edouard slotted in a late consolation for Palace but this was another crucial victory for Guardiola's side in an enthralling three-way title race.
