Brewers beat Twins 3-2 in home opener

The Milwaukee Brewers kicked off their home season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. The game was filled with excitement and tension as both teams battled it out on the field. The Brewers took an early lead in the first inning, but the Twins quickly responded with two runs of their own in the second. However, the Brewers never backed down and managed to tie the game in the fifth inning before taking the lead for good in the seventh.

The crowd at Miller Park was electric, cheering on their team every step of the way. The players fed off this energy and delivered a performance that left fans on their feet until the final out.

Opening Day is an annual tradition for many fans — some of them skipping work or school — to fill the parking lots outside the stadium before first pitch to grill brats and play catch. But with temperatures in the 30s before first pitch, not too many were doing the latter on Tuesday.

Huddled under a small tent attached to the back of a truck, Laura Brown said she was about to attend her 31st Opening Day in a row in Milwaukee.

Yelich hit a 423-foot drive over the center-field wall and Turang added a two-out RBI double in the third as the Brewers boosted the lead to 3-0.

Matt Wallner had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and the Twins closed within a run in the seventh on Christian Vázquez’s sacrifice fly, a run that was unearned because of catcher William Contreras’ fielding error that allowed Willi Castro to reach. Hoby Milner preserved the lead by striking out pinch-hitter Kyle Farmer to strand Manuel Margot at second.

he Twins rank last in the majors with their one home run while the Chicago White Sox and New York Mets — both winless — are the only teams with fewer runs through their first four games of the season.

Even with only three hits Tuesday, the Twins had opportunities to rally. The Brewers squashed them with their defense. Alex Kirilloff and Byron Buxton opened the fourth inning with back-to-back singles, and Brewers right fielder Jackson Chourio made a sliding catch to rob Max Kepler of another hit. Kirilloff scored the only run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Junis, a 31-year-old right-hander, threw just 47 pitches as he adjusts to starting after working primarily out of the bullpen for San Francisco Giants last season. Junis also had been dealing with a minor shoulder issue for part of the spring.

Twins starter Louie Varland (0-1) gave up three runs, six hits and two walks in four innings.
