After a 1-1 draw against Jamaica in the opening match of the CONCACAF Gold Cup group stage, the United States welcomes Saint Kitts and Nevis to Saint Louis, Missouri for Wednesday’s match, as the Americans search for their first win since hoisting the Nations League title earlier this month. Saint Kitts and Nevis lost its group stage opener 3-0 to Trinidad and Tobago, leaving the tiny island nation in a must-win situation, as a date with Jamaica looms in Santa Clara, California on Sunday. This is the first match between the United States and the Sugar Boyz of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The USMNT will look to get back on track in their 2023 Gold Cup campaign when taking on St. Kitts and Nevis at CITYPARK in St. Louis, Missouri on June 28. It'll be the first ever meeting between the two countries, setting up an exciting fixture.
The Stars and Stripes are coming off a draw against Jamaica, nearly avoiding a shocking defeat - which would've been their second ever defeat in the group stage - but the late heroics of substitute Brandon Vazquez earned the Stars and Stripes a point as the game ended 1-1.
USMNT interim head coach B.J. Callaghan wasn't all that disappointed with the result, given all the players that started the game did not feature for the US in their Nations League victories over Mexico and Canada.
If the United States that ended the game against Jamaica shows up in this match, it won't be much of an issue as they only allowed one shot in the second half while Brandon Vazquez scored an equalizer to grab a point. Callaghan showed that he could make the required adjustments and also officially cap-tied six members of the team. Vazquez, Jalen Neal, John Tolkin, Aidan Morris, Alan Sonora, and Cowell all made their debuts in official competition also showing how inexperienced this team is. Part of the goal is to get as many players experience in knockout tournaments as possible before a slew of commitments for the team.
