Israel deports 14 foreign activists who supported Palestinian farmers in West Bank ...Syria

News by : (SANA) -

Occupied Jerusalem, Nov. 8 (SANA) Israeli occupation deported 14 foreign activists of American, Canadian and European nationalities after detaining them since Friday while accompanying Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest season in the West Bank, AFP reported on Sunday.

Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority claimed the activists were deported for “breach of public order and violation of legal provisions.” The Palestinian “Faz’a” campaign, which mobilizes local and foreign volunteers to support Palestinian farmers in reaching their land and protect them from Israeli settler attacks, said the activists were assaulted before being detained.

The Human Rights Defenders Fund, which provided legal support to the detainees, said their detention followed altercations with Israeli settlers. The group included a journalist and a 77-year-old activist, while Israeli occupation police announced the arrest of three Palestinians who were accompanying the foreign solidarity activists.

Second deportation in a week

The deportations come about a week after 15 other foreign activists, including a journalist, were detained and deported.

The detentions and deportations of foreign solidarity activists coincide with escalating attacks against Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest season in the West Bank, where the accompaniment of farmers by foreign and local volunteers is one of the means of civil support and protection against settler attacks and difficulties in accessing agricultural land.

Attacks on journalists

The season also witnessed attacks on journalists, including American photographer Heidi Levine, who was seriously injured while covering settler attacks, and AFP photographer Jaafar Ashtiyeh, who was beaten and taken to hospital. A Reuters journalist was also wounded in the leg by Israeli occupation gunfire while covering an incident in the West Bank.

Settler violence across the West Bank has sharply escalated, with more than 3,000 attacks and violations recorded during October alone, according to figures cited by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. On Saturday, Israeli settlers attacked a European diplomatic delegation in the village of al-Taybeh east of Ramallah, smashing the window of a Belgian consulate vehicle and throwing one consul to the ground.

On Oct. 17, the OIC Media Observatory documented 1,453 Israeli occupation crimes against Palestinians in one week, including 146 settler attacks, 94 of which targeted the olive harvest across 70 villages.
