The arrest follows an investigation into materials allegedly found in storage units and at Thomas’ former residence in the Philippines. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., previously reported suspected child sexual abuse material to authorities.
Thomas, 82, appeared in federal court in Tampa, Florida, on Friday and was released on his own recognizance. His case is expected to proceed in California. If convicted of the charge, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison. Thomas has denied wrongdoing.
