Olivia Rodrigo’s New Music Video Stars the ‘Sex and the City’ Actress Who Inspired One of Her Songs ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

I haven’t personally seen Olivia Rodrigo’s “Which Sex and the City girl are you?” quiz results, but it’s pretty clear that she’s a Miranda — or at least a Cynthia Nixon. Rodrigo tapped the Sex and the City star to play her boyfriend’s mom in the music video for her first official Christmas song, “take me home (4 christmas),” released on November 5. In the 1980s-inspired track, Rodrigo wishes her boyfriend would bring her home for the holidays as a sign of commitment. The nostalgic music video brings Rodrigo’s fantasy to life, complete with Christmas crackers, charades, SNL’s Ben Marshall as her boyfriend, and Sex and the City’s Cynthia Nixon in her first-ever music video appearance.

On Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Nixon remarked that Rodrigo “is the kindest, loveliest, most fun person. I was very startled and thrilled to be invited to be in [the music video].” She continued to praise Rodrigo on Instagram, saying, “I had so much fun playing mom to the hilarious and adorable @benmarshallstyle and imagining what it would be like if the great Olivia Rodrigo showed up on our doorstep for Christmas! Thank you Olivia for bringing me into your festive wonderland for a day.”

While this is their first on-screen collaboration, it’s not Nixon’s first foray into the Olivia Rodrigo universe. Rodrigo revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that multiple songs on her latest album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, were inspired by Miranda Hobbes (played by Nixon) and Steve Brady’s relationship in Sex and the City, her favorite show. “When Miranda and Steve are getting back together, she’s crying. She’s like, ‘Steve, anytime something funny happens, I just want to tell you.’ I remember watching that and being like, “Oh my God, I have to write a song about this!”

Rodrigo paraphrases that exact line in the album’s fourth track, “maggots for brains,” singing, “And everything that’s funny, I wish I could tell to him.” She may not be able to tell the “him” in question, but she can certainly tell the real Miranda Hobbes!
