‘The Traitors: New Blood’s Morgan Cook Reveals She Clocked Joe and Katie Before Her Murder: ‘I Had My Speech Memorized’ (Exclusive) ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

The Traitors: New Blood has arrived! Throughout the season, Mike Bloom will speak with someone from the star-studded cast who was murdered or banished on the iconic Emmy-winning reality series.Over the past two years, we’ve watched Morgan Cook go viral for her hilarious commentary while watching celebrities play The Traitors. But when given the chance to trade in her couch for the castle, she jumped at the opportunity, eager to see if fandom could bring her fulfillment. Known online for her whispering comedy, the self-proclaimed introvert was far from the loudest voice in the room. But there were still a couple of times she received attention — for better and for worse. When the Traitors were tasked with a murder in plain sight, Joe Vanella took matters (and an apple) into his own hands. He attempted to go after Morgan as his first target, only to miss the mark when she refused to field the fruit. Incidentally, that impulse was a game-changing one. Not only was Morgan protected from the murder in plain sight, but Joe’s failure also had Tomica Adams scrambling and gave Victor Vollbrechthausen the spark to light the pilot’s game ablaze. On edge after losing one of their own, Joe and Katie Fites were given yet another murder with a twist, tasked with giving a poisoned chalice to a Faithful. When news broke among the cast, everyone largely stuck to their guns, raising their glasses before one of their games would become toast. Evidently, the Traitors decided to go after Morgan once again, and this time, they were able to keep it down.Read below for our interview with Morgan. And check out new episodes of The Traitors: New Blood Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

I want to drink in the fateful scene that led to your demise, for lack of a better term. Obviously, you didn’t think you had the poisoned chalice. But did you contemplate switching with anyone at all while everyone was talking things over?I really did not consider switching. I was at peace after that dinner. I was honestly really zen, and just so happy to be there with everyone that when we got to that point, I was like, “I know Victor’s gonna freak out. I’m just gonna let that happen, and I’m gonna chill here and enjoy my time.” But also, I didn’t think it was gonna be me. Obviously, if I did think that, then I probably would have been considering changing. But yeah, I just felt like whatever is meant to be will be at this point. So what was your reaction when you found out you were murdered, then? Especially hearing that Joe and Katie wanted to get rid of you so it wouldn’t be connected to either of them?I was really surprised. Like I said, I didn’t expect it to be me. I thought it would probably be somebody who was very clearly a Faithful. I had gotten some heat in the past couple of Roundtables. So I felt like I was someone they could deflect to still. And so I thought like Clyde or Abbey B., who we all were like, “You guys are definitely Faithful. We’re not gonna write your name down.” If I was a Traitor at that point, that’s probably who I’d be getting rid of. I also thought there was a good chance it could be Victor, just because a lot of us did think he was a Faithful at that point. And also in my head, I was assuming Joe was a Traitor. So I was kind of like, “I feel like keeping Victor is not good for Joe, and getting rid of him is not good. But if I were Joe, I would just want to kill him and try to claim I was framed [rather] than have to deal with him coming at me as hard as he came at Tomica.” So yeah, I was very surprised.Talk to me more about that. Why were you so suspicious of Joe?Oh yeah, I was ready to go for him at the next Roundtable. I had all my points ready. I had a speech memorized. I was also on Katie. So I know why I was killed. It’s because I thought it was both.Walk me through some of those points! So I mean, the biggest overarching thing was that Joe kept saying how competitive he was, and he hates to lose, and he really wants to win. And then we’d ask him who a Traitor was, and he’d be like, “…I don’t really know.” And I’m like, “What do you mean you don’t know?! You want to win so badly, but you don’t have an opinion at this point in the game on who the Traitors are?!” So that was like an overarching thing. But I’d kind of been keeping notes since the Xavier murder, because I had seen Joe spend a lot of time with X the night before he was murdered. So I was kind of like, “Did Joe get recruited?” He was [actually] just babysitting his recruit. But that was kind of the first thing that tipped me off. And then there was the death parade challenge. When people got in the cage, I made a note to pay special attention to who got on at the last gate. Because I was like, “I feel like if you’re Faithful and you make it to that last gate, you’re like, ‘I’m holding strong, because I just got to get through this last one and I’m safe.’ I feel like a Traitor is gonna get on at that point because they’re gonna want the challenge to wrap up, and they’re gonna feel like, ‘Okay, I didn’t hop on at the first two and look super eager. This will be less suspicious.'” He got on at the last one. So I was like, “I’ll keep that in my head for later.” There were a handful of other things too. None of them involved him throwing an apple at me. That was not one of my points. [Laughs.]Yeah, I wanted to talk about “Fruitgate.” It was ironic that you were one of its biggest deniers, considering you were the apple’s original target!Oh yeah, it’s not lost on me at all. No one’s more frustrated watching me forget about the apple than I am. I wish that I would have remembered, but it was so insignificant in the moment that I just didn’t. There were three other Faithfuls sitting with me, and none of them remembered it either. So that’s just how insignificant it was. Because Joe’s just like a goofy, fun dude. It was just a very natural, “Oh, I’m gonna toss an apple at you. ” And I was just like, “Oh! It’s kind of weird, but it’s Joe! He’s just trying to bond with me.” He just threw me something. It was just so normal. And it looks really obvious on screen, but it wasn’t in person. You mentioned being suspicious of Katie as well. How did she wind up on your radar?Katie’s playing a great game. I’ll say that I was not nearly as confident on Katie as I was on Joe. But the first thing that made me watch Katie was when Mark was murdered. I was sitting next to her at the breakfast table. And her and Mark were pretty close, andI her reaction was just not what I thought it would be if she genuinely didn’t know that Mark was not coming in that morning. And then obviously we know Jay had said Katie’s name at the beginning. And after we take out Tomica, and Victor’s crazy is correct, I’m like, “Well, what if Jay’s crazy is also correct?”She’s playing very middle of the road. She’s not drawing too much attention to herself. She’s not being completely quiet. And I was like, “She’s a very outgoing person. She’s a very bubbly person. You aren’t being as loud as I think you would be if you were truly trying to figure out who the Traitors are.” But I didn’t feel nearly as confident on her yet. But I had told her, “I think it could be you.”At the dinner in this past episode, you spoke about growing up as a quiet introvert, and you spoke early in the season about how much you don’t like large groups. How tough was it for you to try to play a social game like The Traitors as an introvert, especially given how being quiet can often get you labeled as suspicious? So for me, I’ve never wanted my introverted tendencies or my anxiety to prevent me from having experiences in life. So I was like, “I’m going to figure out how to do this. Because I love this game and it’s going to be really cool to play, even if I’m playing it with 21 extroverts.” So in my head, pretty much at all times was like, “You would regret not doing this more than you’ll ever regret doing it.” And that would always kind of give me the energy to keep going each day. But they are all extroverts, but they’re also all really nice. And Abby L., she’s also more introverted. So I kind of had my people that I could go to and be like, “Okay, are you tired of talking? Do you want to take a break?” So it was nice to have that bond. Everybody is super nice. Yeah, they talk all the time and they don’t shut up, but it’s not like they’re mean people. They’re pleasant to be around. And, again, I just was so excited to have the experience that I was like, “I’m not gonna let this part of how my brain works stop me from enjoying this.”We’ve seen you make commentary videos about The Traitors prior to going to the castle. But now that you’ve gotten the chance to play, what do you think is the biggest misconception fans have about the show? That it’s easy! I knew going into it [that] it’s going to be a lot harder than it looks on television. And I would say that’s true times 10. When you’re in it and you really have no idea who the Traitors are, and you’re all in separate rooms, you have no idea what’s going on in the room over here. You have no idea about this conversation over here; it is so much more difficult. Especially when it’s a group of true strangers, not like celebrities that you kind of have a preconception of. You’re really relying on your ability to read people. You have to think, “Am I really getting to know this person, or are they playing a part?” That’s always in the back of your head. And for anything anybody does, you can convince yourself of why they would do it because they’re Faithful, and why they would do it because they’re a Traitor. And you’re just like grappling with that with every conversation and everything you see.
