While Conformity Gate holdouts were expecting the news to be a new episode or (on the more extreme side of the conspiracy theory) a full new season, that’s not what the Duffer Brothers had in store. Instead, a brand-new prequel spin-off series of the original show is coming to the streaming platform in 2028. Here’s everything you need to know, as well as a look at the newly released teaser.
The prequel series is titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, and, as shown in the teaser, will be set in Marion, Nevada, in 1955—several years before the Broadway Stranger Things prequel play The First Shadow, which centers on Henry Creel, the character who ultimately becomes the terrifying villain named Vecna (and 001 and Mr. Whatsit—he has a lot of names).
Per Netflix’s Tudum, “The prequel series Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure is set in the 1950s, decades before the Stranger Things gang uncovered a supernatural conspiracy in their small town of Hawkins, Indiana. The new show also predates the events of the award-winning stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which explores Henry Creel’s troubled past in Hawkins in 1959.”
The Tudum announcement continues with a quote from executive producer Shawn Levy, who says, “With Other Worlds, the Duffer Brothers and Kate Trefry craft a new ensemble and adventure that is imbued with the DNA of our flagship series while exploring a new era, setting and all-new characters, themes and mythology — the seeds of which may have been planted in Hawkins, but now venture into other worlds of spectacle, action and emotion.”
