PENFIELD, N.Y. — Saint Joseph School in Penfield held its Veterans Field of Honor opening ceremony Wednesday.
The event brought people together to recognize and honor the men and women who have served and continue to serve the country. More than 180 American flags were sponsored and displayed as part of the Field of Honor, with proceeds from each flag sponsorship set to benefit the Veterans Outreach Center to support local veterans in need.
“There’s many parents here that served, and their parents served, my dad is out here and we have a flag dedicated to him. And it’s just something that we really enjoy doing and it brings the community together. And thank goodness we have a great group here,” said Neal Gorman.
In addition to the flag display, the school community is collecting coats, gloves and hats for homeless veterans.
